 CONVEX CURVES WITH STRAIGHTFACE UNITS

  1. For outside or convex turns with straightface units,  the sides of the face may be chipped along the  splitting grooves.

  2. Straightface units, placed in a convex curve, will "open  up" at the point where the side of one unit is placed  against another unit.

  3. To prevent this from occurring, one side of each face  must be chipped at the splitting grove, as shown.Chipping at the splitting groove removes a portion of the side.  This allows the units to be placed alongside each other in  a convex turn and prevent the faces of the units from  opening up.
