- For outside or convex turns with straightface units,
the sides of the face may be chipped along the splitting
grooves.
- Straightface units, placed in a convex curve, will "open
up" at the point where the side of one unit is placed
against another unit.
- To prevent this from occurring, one side of each face
must be chipped at the splitting grove, as shown.Chipping at
the splitting groove removes a portion of the side. This
allows the units to be placed alongside each other in
a convex turn and prevent the faces of the units from
opening up.
